Karwar: Bridge Collapse Incident, CM Directs Comprehensive Bridge Safety Audit
In a swift response to a major infrastructure incident happened in Karwar, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has initiated urgent safety measures following the collapse of a bridge over the Kali River. The bridge, a crucial link between Goa and Karwar, gave way under circumstances that are still being investigated. This event has prompted immediate action from state officials and raised concerns about the structural integrity of bridges across the region.
In a significant development, relevant officials have been promptly informed to take immediate action. Furthermore, an official letter has been dispatched to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), requesting a thorough inspection of the collapsed bridge’s structural integrity and a comprehensive safety assessment of all bridges in the area.
The CM himself dialled Karwar Deputy Commissioner Laxmipria and obtained information regarding the collapse of the Kali River bridge connecting Goa and Karwar. The Chief Minister instructed to ensure the safety of all bridges and roads in the district and to take precautions to prevent any loss of life.
Providing information about the incident, the Deputy Commissioner said that the truck driver injured when the bridge collapsed has been admitted to the hospital and is out of danger. Relevant officials have been informed for immediate action. Additionally, an official letter has been sent to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to inspect the strength of the bridge and ensure the safety of all bridges in the area.
